SERVE FOODS

Divine Karunalayam trust has been serving food at General Hospital, Pathanamthitta to the needy patients and by-standers, for the past 20 years. More than 400 people benefit from this service every day. Generous people have always come forward to sponsor the food. The hot and delicious lunch to be served at General hospital, is prepared by experienced people at Divine Karunalayam. Even doctor and nurses from the hospital take this food often which shows the trust authorities have on us.

After December 2006, financial support was given to ten patients for operation purposes. Also, financial assistance was provided to five people for conducting marriage. We are currently taking care of few weak and elderly people who were abandoned by family, at their own houses. Discharged people who are unable to travel by bus, are provided with conveyance facilities by the trust.

REHABILATIONCENTER

This trust is established with the aim of giving charity to down trodden, old aged, physically handicapped and mentally weak people deserted by friends and relatives. We consider it as a divine vocation of any socially responsible citizen. People of the above said category who wander about in town and streets are taken to Karunalayam as inmates and are given proper care and treatment. Among the inmates, there are deaf, dumb, paralyzed, diabetic, asthma and mental patients. They get treatment, food and acoomodation in Karunalayam.

Divine Karunalayam shifted to its new fully furnished facility, with all its inmates, on May 2015. At present, 30 inmates are looked after at our facility. They are provided with nutritious food, monthly checkups, proper medical attention and a peaceful living atmosphere. After December 2006, 30 psychiatric patients were brought to Karunalayam from street as well as hospitals. Six mentally challenged patients who were cured completely were returned to their homes. Two of them were north Indians. Six mentally challenged ladies taken from the streets were admitted to Sneha Bhavan, Thiruvalla, an orphanage for ladies.

Divine Karunalayam has its own cemetery at Angadical in Pathanamthitta district. Whenever an inmate dies, he is buried at the cemetery with all burial rites of an Indian citizen. Within the last ten years, forty two dead bodies have been buried in this cemetery.

Karunalayam treats every inmate as our own. We take extra care in meeting their needs and ensuring their happiness. As a result, psychiatric patients undergo speedy recovery and are returning back to normalcy. Once cured, such people are normally sent back to their families. Some families won’t agree to take them back. They continue to stay at Karunalayam and serve as volunteers thereby helping us continue our mission.

OTHER ACTIVITES

Karunalayam trust takes initiative in a lot of other issues also. Serving food at General hospital enables us to understand the problems and need of patients and help them accordingly. We buy medicines prescribed by doctors to poor patients and are not available in the General hospital and give it to them. Conveyance is arranged to the poor people when they are referred to the medical college for further treatments. Also, we help them to find donors when they need blood in critical conditions.
